Amedment to the brief - Friday 3rd December 2010

Amending the brief for You Need Cycles.

The change that were made are the contents of the brochure, the price list was negotiated to be on a serperate piece, loose leaf so that incase of any price changes there wouldn't be a lot of trouble reprinting the brochure on the loose leaf with the prices on would have to be printed.
For the space of page 9 that the price list was originally on I have moved a couple of pages to other page numbers and added the page with information, an introduction to the company, explanation of where the company are based, how they were established etc. Also the deadline of the final product was changed from the 18th December 2010 to the 1st February 2011, this was also negotiated in the meeting.

Negotiating the brief - meeting 1 (19/10/2010)

On Tuesady 19th October 2010 I attended the meeting, guest visitor Mr Bowles was also invited.
Group Members: Elliot and Premal, Kelly wasn't present on this day.

In my group Elliot was the negotiator and was barganing and trying to persuade the client, Mr J.Chatton and to get a result in the amendment that we wanted to get. Premal was taking notes throught the meeting as well as myself. Premal was using his phone to do this and I was using ICT tools to do this, I first started to make these notes on blogger but changed my mind and decided to make notes on Microsoft word.

My performamce in this meeting was good becuase I was able to make notes throughout the actual meeting. And before the negotiating process I was able to work with my group to come up with alternatives for the deadline of the brochure. My weakness is that I didn't take much part in the meeting but as said previously I was able to take time through the duration of the meeting I was able to make notes about the other groups ideas and what they were negotiating and what alternatives they have for their decision and why they want to do this amendment to the brief.

The meeting clearly shows a defninite process of dialog between the client and the different members that attended the meeting, however not all members were inputting to a standard that they could have. This could be improved by the different groups allocating a specific area of the negotiation process within the group. Although each group were negotiating different areas of the brief and come up with solutions etc, not every group was successful in getting a deal with the client, Mr J.Chatton. One group got a deal with the client and the amendment was agreed, this could be that they were very prepared, persuasive and convincing. Another group wasn't sucessful in getting an agreement to their amendment and my group was to carry on with this and send the client an email with our ideas for the amendment and that the client would get back with his decision about our idea.

The whole meeting was video recorded so that we could go back and watch the recording and see what the whole groups strengths and weaknesses are and what the different groups strengths and weaknesses are too. And we could see who was making an effort in the meeting.

My feedback to the other groups would be that, to one of the groups they could possible work together a bit more and contribute more whilst in the meeting to back up the other members of their group, however the effect that this had on the group was that they, unfortunately didnt get the result that they wanted. And to the other group they worked well as a team but my honest opinion is that the other group members could of possibly helped out through the duration of the meeting and back up what the negotiator was saying, but in the end they did get the result that they wanted.

Meeting With Mr Chatton - negotiating the breif

Negotiating the beif with Mr James Chatton.
In this meeting the group, Elliot, Premal and myself began to negotiate the deadline for the submission of the brochure. We were told to send Mr James Chatton the ammendment and that he will get back to us with a decision, and opinion.

We came up with the idea of having the deadline at the begining of the new year, when sales are at a high. However, James Chatton didn't want this as none of the prices were sale prices.

Hopefully, our prefered time for submission will be agreed and that the deadline will be put forward, until after christmas, in about February or January.

Feedback from James Chatton

Feedback from Mr James Chatton is that I am the guru for this blogging system, as I understand the different areas on the system. I am able to help others out with any problems that they are having with their blog. And it was said that other members are to email me or ask me how to do something or sort something out if they don't understand how to do a certain something.

Meetings With Mr James Chatton

highlited -
green :- strengths
red :- weaknesses
Yellow :- areas for improvement

There have been two meetings with Mr James Chatton. They were both sucessful and information was collected that would be helpful towards designing and producing the brochure.

The first meeting took place on the 4th October at 1.45pm in room 237, there were a few members that were not present and unfortunately didnt get chance to tajke part in the meeting. This meeting was to collect information about what the brochure would include,, layouts,, housestyles and colour schemes that would be carried out throughout the whole brochure. This information was successfully collected.

The second meeting took place on Monday 11th October at 1.45pm in room 237, there were no absences, this meeting was to discuss the ICT tools available in school and outside school that could be helpful or to be a possible use to design and produce the brochure. This information was collected but there were some elements that were not dicsused and the members that took part in the meeting need to go off and gather other elements of ICT tools that are available, hardware and software and their solutions.

However there were some memebers that didn't collect enought information and research to put forward which therefore became the reason as to why we couldnt complete the meeting. So in all to make the next meeting be a lot more successful is if members gathered enough information/research to put forward and be more prepared to share this with the other members of the group and to possibly contribute in the meeting. Which will then be helpful throughout the process of the production of the brochure for You Need Cycles.

Mr J.Chatton did refered us to do some reading for futhure research on finding out about the ICT tools, hardware and software, that could be possible to use for the design and production of the brochure.

Working As A Team - Identifying Strengths And Weaknesses For You Need Cycles

What worked :

- information was gathered about the company
- everyone took part, and gave ideas
- although a member of the team wasn't present we didn't let this affect us or our work
- also we were able to find out what the other teams had put down as strengths, weaknesses
What didn't work :

- a member of the team wasn't present

How I would improve it :

To improve this I would have tried to collect more information from the case study and pick out more specific parts of information. And have a group discusion to make the information more to the point. However, the member of the group that wasn't present when we did this task is present today but unfortunately a different member of the group isn't present.
